Colon Cancer Symptoms
Colon cancer - what is it?
Colon cancer or colorectal cancer as it is more commonly known is a generic term which includes all cancers of the anus, rectum, colon and appendix. Most colon cancer starts off as benign polyps (little growths) which could turn malignant and cancerous as time passes. Colon cancer is the second biggest killing cancer of men and women alike after lung cancer.
Colon cancer symptoms - how can you tell?
- change in your bowel habits - diarrhoea or constipation
- vomiting
- blood in your feces
- abdominal bloating, cramping
- weight loss for no apparent reason
- lethargy and being always tired
- anemia that cannot be explained by other causes
If you show any of the above signs, see your doctor. There are diagnostic tests that can be done to check for blood in the stools - this is called the fecal occult blood test. You can get home test kits by clicking here.
Studies conducted have shown that people who have a diet high in fiber are less likely to develop colon cancer. Most of us don't eat enough roughage in our diet. You can supplement your lack of fiber in your diet with some of these products. Not only does fiber lower your chances of colon cancer, it also has the added benefit of reducing your cholesterol uptake.
